Dental Hospital voucher

What are Dental Hospital vouchers?

Hospital vouchers are issued from a public local dental hospital to patients that cannot afford dental treatment and currently get a Centrelink payment. Hospital vouchers allow these patients to present the voucher to a private dental clinic and get the same or better treatment from a private dental clinic. If you ask your public dental hospital for a dental voucher, instead of getting the treatment done in the hospital, they usually will give you the voucher.

What does a Dental Hospital voucher allow me to do?

Vouchers will allow you to get the treatment you need. Dental vouchers are a way of the public system funding your need for dental work. It can help you get out of pain or do basic dentistry work like cleans and fillings.

What does a Dental Hospital voucher cover?

Items covered under the hospital vouchers are Cleans, Fillings, Dentures (False teeth), Root Canals / Nerve treatments (Stage 1 or 3) and Extractions (removing the tooth).

Cosmetic items like veneers or braces are usually not covered and must be paid privately. We will ensure our best to make sure you make the most of your dental voucher!

How to get the process started for a Dental Hospital Voucher!

There are many ways to get the process started. Here are the main ones listed below. Please remember this is the public system that you will be dealing with. Extended wait times on the phones, long waiting times and quality of care at public dental hospitals need to be considered before making a decision. At a private clinic, you get personalized care with appointments tailored to your needs.

Initial Private consultation!

In this process, we get you to come in for a private consultation ($50). We provide you with a letter of support and a treatment plan. We email/fax this off to the local hospital and then they will send you a dental voucher for our private dental clinic IF you are eligible for a voucher.

  1. Private consultation.
  2. Woodville Rd Medical and Dental center will email/fax the Treatment plan and Letter of support.
  3. You receive a dental voucher.
  4. You come back in for further treatment.

Calling the Local Public hospital!

In this process, you call the local hospital and hope that they are sympathetic to your needs and send a dental voucher. The issue with this process is that they will ask you if you’re in pain or if it is an urgent issue. They will then triage your condition and place you on a waiting list. They may call you in to get the work done, but the usual waiting times in 1 year to 1.5 years. At this time the problem usually gets worse and the tooth usually has to be removed.

Because there is no set treatment plan or letter of support from an authorised dentist, they can’t really understand what is going on inside your mouth. This is why the waiting times are significantly longer for this method.

  1. Call the local dental hospital
  2. Wait for a dental voucher if they decide to send one to you. (1-1.5 years for waiting times)
  3. Book an appointment with our clinic and come in for further treatment.

If you are in pain

Our private dental clinic is exceptional at getting patients out of pain. We pride ourselves on working hard and working late to meet your needs. We are open till 8 pm on all weekdays and are also open on the weekends.

If you are in pain, please give us a call or book online and we WILL slot you in so you are seen on the day!

How long should I wait before calling the dental hospital about my voucher

Dental vouchers are a slow process when it is not expedited by a qualified dental professional. Waiting times to be seen by a dentist at the local public dental hospital can be long. If you can’t wait till then, please call our clinic and we can help you out.
