The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a Medicare benefit that covers basic dental care for eligible children. We bulk-bill eligible treatment, so for most families, there is nothing to pay at the appointment.
Where your child is eligible and has benefit remaining, we bulk-bill covered services to Medicare. We check the available balance before treatment so there are no surprises. Conditions apply.
What CDBS generally covers:
A few details is all we need. We’ll confirm a time that suits you.
See our Privacy Policy.
Bulk billing applies to eligible children within their available Medicare benefit balance. Sending an enquiry doesn’t create a treatment plan — what’s suitable for you is assessed at your appointment by an AHPRA-registered practitioner. Conditions apply.
You do not need to work out your child's balance yourself. Give us their Medicare details, and we will confirm eligibility before the appointment.
Request a call back with their name and Medicare details and we will check eligibility for you.
We check that your child is eligible and how much of the benefit is available.
Covered treatment is bulk-billed. If anything falls outside CDBS, we tell you the fee first.
You leave knowing what has been used, what is left, and when to come back.
The schedule covers basic dental services. It does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work, or any services provided in a hospital setting.
The benefit is capped over a two-year period set by Medicare. If your child’s balance runs out partway through a course of treatment, we will explain what remains to be done and provide a quote before proceeding.

Younger children are often happier sitting with a parent or an older sibling before their own turn. Nothing is rushed, and the appointment can end early if that is what is needed.
Tell reception how many children you are bringing and they can be seen in one trip. Eligibility is checked separately for each child before you arrive.
What was found, what it means and what to watch for at home — given to the parent in plain terms, with anything outside the schedule quoted in writing first.

For eligible children within their available balance there is nothing to pay. Anything outside the schedule is quoted in writing before treatment, and our usual payment options apply.
We can't quote your health fund rebate over the phone or online — every policy is different. Bring your fund card to your appointment and swipe it at reception, and we'll check your available benefit on the spot.
Eligibility is set by Services Australia and generally depends on your child’s age and whether your family receives a relevant government payment. You do not need to work it out yourself — give us their Medicare details when you request a call back and we will check with Medicare before the appointment.
For covered services, within your child’s available benefit balance, no — we bulk-bill those to Medicare. If treatment falls outside the schedule or the balance has been used up, we quote it in writing first and you decide.
The benefit is capped over a two-year period and the amount is set by Medicare. Any part of it used at another practice counts towards the same cap, which is why we check the balance rather than assume it is full.
Orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work and services provided in a hospital setting are not covered by the schedule. If your child needs something outside CDBS, we will explain it and give you the fee in writing.
Yes, and it is usually easier for everyone. Tell reception how many children you are bringing when you request a call back, and eligibility is checked for each child separately.
Mention it when you book so it is noted before you arrive. Tell the dentist what worries your child most, and the appointment can be paced accordingly. Younger children are often happier sitting with a parent or an older sibling first.
These conditions apply to the eligibility requirements and out-of-pocket statements referred to on this page. If anything here is unclear, ask reception before your appointment.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a Commonwealth program. Eligibility is determined by Services Australia, not by the practice, and generally depends on the child’s age and the family receiving a relevant government payment. Eligibility can change from year to year.
Where your child is eligible and has benefit available, we bulk-bill covered services, which means no out-of-pocket cost for those services. We confirm eligibility and the available balance with Medicare before treatment.
The benefit is capped over a two-year period, and the cap amount is set by Medicare. Part of the balance may already have been used at another practice, which counts towards the same cap.
If the available balance does not cover all recommended treatment, the remaining treatment is quoted to you in writing and you decide whether to proceed. Our normal fees apply to treatment beyond the benefit.
CDBS does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental work or services provided in a hospital. Treatment recommendations are always based on an individual clinical assessment rather than on what the schedule happens to fund.
All treatment is provided by AHPRA-registered practitioners following an individual clinical assessment. All dental treatment carries risks, which your dentist will discuss with you before treatment proceeds.
Advertised prices are current at the time of publication and may be changed or withdrawn. Individual results may vary. Some images are stock photos or models, not actual patients.
