CTP / Green Slip claims · Toongabbie
A car accident can damage your teeth, gums or jaw in seconds. If you have been injured in a motor vehicle accident in NSW, dental treatment may be covered under a Compulsory Third Party (CTP) claim, sometimes called a Green Slip claim.
Clinically necessary care does not have to wait for paperwork. Whether treatment is funded is decided by your insurer, not by the practice. Conditions apply.
What we can do for you:
A few details is all we need. We’ll confirm a time that suits you.
See our Privacy Policy.
No out-of-pocket applies only to treatment approved under your claim. Sending an enquiry doesn’t create a treatment plan — what’s suitable for you is assessed at your appointment by an AHPRA-registered practitioner. Conditions apply.

A knocked-out permanent tooth, significant facial trauma or uncontrolled bleeding needs urgent attention — call (02) 7905 0814. For other fresh dental trauma we will try to fit you in within a day, depending on availability and how urgent the injury is. Paperwork can be sorted alongside treatment.
Bring your claim number, insurer details and any written approval to your appointment, so the assessment can be documented and billed in line with what has been agreed.
You do not need to wait for approval before getting clinically necessary care. If direct payment has not been confirmed, you may need to pay and then request reimbursement once the claim and expense are accepted. Once we have your claim and case-manager details we can seek written approval or direct billing.
Ask your insurer for the decision and reasons in writing. We may be able to provide further clinical information where the insurer needs clarification. We can liaise with your lawyer, or share details of one we have worked with. SIRA and CTP Assist can explain the review and dispute pathways.
Treat it as urgent:
Uncontrolled bleeding, significant facial trauma, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or rapidly spreading swelling should be treated as a medical emergency — attend your nearest hospital emergency department or call 000. CTP paperwork can be dealt with alongside the injury documentation; the immediate priority is the injury. Conditions apply.

CTP, or Green Slip, cover pays for injuries from a NSW motor accident, not damage to the car. Dental expenses sit inside that cover: SIRA lists them among the medical costs a claim can pay for, as long as the treatment is reasonable and necessary because of the crash.
Getting funded isn't automatic, and it's not something we decide either:
That split stays constant throughout: we handle the clinical side, they handle the money.
Drivers, passengers, riders, pedestrians and cyclists injured in a NSW motor accident can all apply for personal injury benefits, regardless of who was at fault. Conditions apply.
If your CTP insurer has not yet agreed to pay the clinic directly, you can still go ahead with clinically necessary treatment. You may be asked to pay first and seek reimbursement once your claim and the expense are accepted.
Once we have your claim number, insurer name and case-manager details, our team can seek written approval or direct-billing instructions. Larger or staged treatment — root canal work followed by a crown, for example — usually needs its own approval; an approved consultation does not automatically cover every later procedure.
Yes. Do not delay time-sensitive dental care while waiting for a claim number. A knocked-out adult tooth, uncontrolled bleeding or significant facial injury needs immediate attention. For other recent dental trauma we will do our best to fit you in within a day, depending on our schedule and how urgent the injury is. If the insurer has not yet agreed to pay the clinic, you may need to pay for the appointment and then request reimbursement.
CTP, also known as a Green Slip, is the only car insurance compulsory to register a vehicle in NSW, and the only type that can cover personal injury costs including dental treatment. Third party property, fire and theft, and comprehensive cover damage to vehicles and property rather than injuries to people. SIRA lists dental expenses among the medical expenses that may be paid through the scheme where they are reasonable and necessary because of the crash.
Yes. SIRA states that drivers, passengers, riders, pillion passengers, pedestrians and cyclists injured in a NSW motor crash can apply. A dental claim still needs to be connected to an injury from the crash, and the proposed treatment must meet the insurer requirements. The practice assesses and documents the injury; your insurer or CTP Assist is the appropriate source for confirming your individual entitlement.
You can still apply for NSW personal injury benefits if you were injured, even if you were at fault. The benefits available and how long they continue can vary with the circumstances and the classification of the injury. The insurer still needs to be satisfied that the oral injury came from the crash and that the proposed care is reasonable and necessary.
Insurers assess whether proposed treatment is connected to the injuries from the crash, appropriate for the type of injury, likely to help recovery or function, provided by an appropriately qualified practitioner, and cost-effective. Your dentist can explain the diagnosis, options, expected benefit and fees so the insurer has enough information to consider the request. A procedure being clinically possible does not oblige the insurer to fund it.
Repair of a broken or chipped tooth may be covered as well as full replacement, where the treatment is accepted as reasonable and necessary. Your dentist first assesses whether the natural tooth can be saved. If it cannot, replacement options may include a denture, bridge or dental implant depending on the mouth, bone, adjacent teeth and your general health. The insurer may compare the options before approving one, so an implant is not automatically funded simply because a tooth was lost.
If a claim has been opened, give us the claim number, insurer name, claims officer or case-manager details, crash date and any written approval or billing instructions, plus any hospital, GP or previous dental records relevant to the injury. We can then document the injury, prepare an itemised plan or report, and ask the insurer to confirm what it will pay. For later or major treatment we recommend obtaining written approval for the specific procedure and agreed fees before relying on direct billing.
Dental and jaw symptoms do not always appear straight away. A tooth crack may become painful with biting or temperature later, and jaw stiffness or bite changes can become clearer once swelling settles. Tell us when the accident happened, what part of your face was hit, and when each symptom started. We can examine the area and use appropriate imaging where necessary. Report new symptoms to your insurer promptly and keep your clinical records.
Ask the insurer for the decision and reasons in writing. Your dentist may be able to provide additional clinical information where the insurer needs clarification about the diagnosis, the connection to the crash, treatment options or expected benefit. A declined request is not something the practice can override. If a lawyer is handling your claim we can liaise with them on the clinical details; if not, we can share details of a lawyer we have worked with. SIRA and CTP Assist can explain the review or dispute pathways.
SIRA advises making a CTP personal injury claim within three months of the crash. If you want to claim loss of earnings from the date of the accident, an earlier 28-day timeframe can be relevant. Because timing can affect benefits, do not wait for every dental symptom to resolve before contacting the insurer. CTP Assist can provide current guidance for late or unusual claims.
These conditions apply to the CTP claim and billing statements referred to on this page. If anything here is unclear, ask reception before your appointment.
Whether dental treatment is funded under a CTP claim is determined by your CTP insurer under the NSW motor accidents scheme, not by the practice. Coverage is not automatic for every proposed procedure.
The practice assesses and documents the dental injury and prepares an itemised treatment plan. We cannot determine the outcome of a claim, override an insurer’s decision, or assure you that a particular treatment will be paid for.
General information on this page about the NSW CTP scheme, including who may apply and claim timeframes, is drawn from published SIRA guidance and is provided for general information only. It is current at the time of publication and may change.
It is not legal advice and does not confirm your individual entitlement. Your insurer, SIRA or CTP Assist is the appropriate source for confirming entitlement, timeframes and review or dispute pathways for your own claim.
Direct billing to a CTP insurer is only available where the insurer has confirmed in writing that it will pay the practice. Until that is confirmed, treatment is charged to you and you may seek reimbursement once your claim and the expense have been accepted.
Reimbursement is at the insurer’s discretion under the scheme, and we cannot assure that an expense paid by you will be refunded. Larger or staged treatment generally requires separate approval for each procedure.
Where we indicate we will try to see a patient with fresh dental trauma within a day, this depends on appointment availability and the clinical urgency of the injury and cannot be assured for every enquiry.
We are not an after-hours emergency service. For a knocked-out permanent tooth, uncontrolled bleeding, significant facial injury, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or rapidly spreading infection, seek urgent dental or medical care immediately, or attend your nearest hospital emergency department or call 000.
Where we share the details of a lawyer we have previously worked with, that is provided as information only. We do not act for any law firm, receive no benefit for the referral, and make no representation about the outcome of any legal matter. You are free to choose your own legal representation.
All treatment is provided by AHPRA-registered practitioners following an individual clinical assessment. All dental treatment carries risks, which your dentist will discuss with you before treatment proceeds. Imaging is taken only where clinically indicated.
Information on this page is general in nature and is not a diagnosis or a substitute for an individual clinical assessment. Individual results may vary. Some images are stock photos or models, not actual patients.
